Claire lectures part time at Nottingham Trent University, UK, teaching on the world renowned BA Hons Fashion knitwear & Knitted Textile Design Course. Claire also has 35 years plus industrial knitwear design knowledge including pattern cutting for knitwear, garment sampling for manufacture, knitted stitch development & 3D CAD simulations.

The Studio
The studio houses a total of 20 different types of knitting machines which are at your disposal, and can be used for the duration of your lesson or training. Or, if you prefer, you can bring your knitting machine to the lesson.
Machines covered: Knitmaster, Silver Reed, Brother, Passap, Dubied.
Software: DesignaKnit ver 8&9 APEX CAD series
Fabric construction training: rib, lace, plush, short row, drop stitch, punch lace, jacquard, tuck, fair isle, slip, intarsia, garter pattern, cables, garment shaping & construction, fashioning, sampling prototypes
Gauges: 12gg, 10gg, fine gauge, standard gauge, chunky gauge.
Machine knitting
At the Knitting school you can learn to machine knit from absolute beginner level through to advanced level. All aspects of machine knitting are covered: ribber work, double bed jacquard, lace carriage, intarsia, garter carriage, knitwear garment designing, fair Isle, designing your own punchcards…….
Claire has been a part-time lecturer at a number of top UK universities, spanning over 25 years & has been a knitwear designer for over 35 years.

DesignaKnit
If you are new to DesignaKnit & need to get to grips with this fabulous knitting program then do get in touch to arrange a lesson. whether you are a beginner or have more experience & just want to learn a new area of the program, just get in touch & book a lesson with Claire.
You can discuss what you want to learn & how many hours duration you would prefer as the sessions are private, bespoke & one to one they can be tailored to any length of (minimum of 1 hour).
You can have your lesson online or face to face in the studio. Claire teaches all over the world via Zoom, time difference is not a problem.

Hand Knitting
Here in the Knitting School Claire also runs beginner, private, one-to-one, hand knitting & crochet lessons in the studio.
Hand knitting & crochet has been proven to reduce stress, anxiety & depression due to its rhythmic, repetitive action & background concentration, keeping the brain occupied whilst learning something new. If you are in need of some ‘me’ time, get in touch, learn the art of knitting in a quiet peaceful studio space surrounded by all things knit.

Knitting Workshop Options Available & Access
Choose between one, two, three hour sessions, or longer, on a day that suits you. Lessons usually start at 10 am if you are coming to the studio, but international online classes can be arranged for any time. Contact Claire to discuss options.
Need more time with me for intensive training? If you would like to study for a day, several days, a week or more. Get in touch to discuss your requirements.
All day & weekend sessions can also be catered for students coming from further afield. Please contact Claire to discuss your requirements if this is more preferable.
Pick up & drop off service to Northampton train station, bus station, or your hotel in the Northampton area is available at no extra cost.
The studio is based in Northampton, which is a 50-minute train journey from London Euston & 65 minutes from Birmingham International Airport train station.
M1 motorway: junction 15. We are very close to all major roads A14, A45 & M6.
Lessons are from absolute beginner to advanced & every level in between, including DesignaKnit 8 & 9. Claire is super patient & will guide you through all aspects of your learning.
Claire will write a lesson plan specifically for YOU & for what you want to cover so, an initial conversation will be instigated to find out what aspect of your machine you want to concentrate on before the lesson. A mutually agreeable time will be arranged & either a Zoom invite will be sent out to you via email for that time, or a date for you to come to the studio will be sent.
Complimentary hot/cold drinks & light refreshments will be available throughout your lesson.
Mobility: please note that our WC & studio teaching area is on the first floor with stair access. However, the front area of the workshop is on the ground floor with no steps & can be accessed by wheelchair users.
