Machine Knitting Lessons

Claire specialises in teaching one to one, bespoke lessons on domestic & industrial knitting machines.

Claire lectures part time at Nottingham Trent University, UK, on their world renowned BA Hons Fashion Knitwear & Textile Design Course. She also lectures at DeMontfort University,UK, teaching the state of the art Shima Seiki Apex series 3D specialist software & teaches on Dubied industrial hand flats to undergraduates & graduates.

Claire has over 35 years of experience as a knitwear designer to the industry. She is highly skilled in working on Brother, Silver Reed, Passap & Dubied machines. She has experience on specialist CAD software, namely, Shima Seiki APEX series, 3D CAD & DesignaKnit versions 8/9.

Claire has sold knitwear design concepts to many fashion houses across the world including Oscar de la Renta, Mosschino Cheap & Chic, Maje, & high street stores including Gap & River Island.

Machines available in the studio: Brother, Knitmaster, Silver Reed, Passap, Dubied & DesignaKnit. We have a wide variety of knitting machines in the studio which are available for your lesson. However, some students prefer to bring their own machines with them to the studio if they prefer.

Lessons can take place in house, in the studio, or online via Zoom anywhere in the world (time difference is not always a problem & a convenient time can usually be arranged easily).

Specialist Knitwear Manufacturing Experience

At the Knitting School you are in very capable hands. Claire has over 35 years worth of experience working & lecturing as a knitwear designer in the specialised field of knitwear manufacture & design sampling prototypes. This includes experience in TRUE knitwear garment pattern cutting, linking, finishing, garment fitting & other customer-facing roles.

Claire specialises in knitwear design training for individuals & design teams on stitch swatch development, DesignaKnit & Shima Seiki APEX CAD systems. Please get in touch to organise bespoke training for your design team in knitwear design & knitwear manufacturing routes, either in the studio or via Zoom, anywhere in the world at a time that suits you.

What we have in the studio.....

Claire has a total of 20 different types of knitting machines at your disposal which can be used for the duration of your lesson. Or, if you prefer, you can bring your own machine to the lesson.

Machine types covered: Knitmaster, Silver Reed electronic, Brother standard gauge & chunky gauge, Passap Duo80 E6000, Dubied NF4 feed.

Accessories covered: lace carriage, Intarsia carriage (all makes), ribber attachments (all makes), garter carriage, linker fine point & medium point, 4-6col colour changers, transfer carriage (Passap & Brother), casting off devices (all makes), EC1 pattern Controller, charting devices (all makes), DesignaKnit with down cables.
